TV Review: The Carrie Diaries

So even though I promised myself I wouldn't get into another TV show until after this school year but... I failed. After Alison from amarixe on YouTube was talking about the Carrie Diaries I thought I would give it a try and I fell in love with it after the first episode! I'm about 5 episodes in and can't get enough (which could be dangerous considering March Madness at school is coming up).

For those of you who may not be aware, The Carrie Diaries is a prequel to the much beloved Sex and the City. It is super funny, whimsical and entertaining. It's a cross between a teen drama but an adult cult favourite.

It takes place in 1984 back and forth from Connecticut and Manhattan and revolves around Carrie Bradshaw (obviously) at the age of 16. She gets an internship in Manhattan and begins to discover the big city. She balances two lives and discovers herself in a new way. It represents a typical teen relationship to parents, sibling and friends but with a twist.

I don't want to give too much away in case anyone wants to start watching it but if you have some free time, I would definitely check it out. What surprised me the most were the clothes! I couldn't believe how much from the 80s has come back in style.

So if you have time or if you have a list of shows you want to start I would put this on it! If you already watch it, let me know what you love (or maybe don't love it) -I would love to hear your thoughts!!

PS: check out Alison's blog and YouTube channel! She's one of my favourites :)

19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards

As most of you know the 19th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards took place last night and there were no doubt some stunners on the red carpet (obviously). Here are some of my favourites!

Amanda Seyfried

Photo: PR photos
Okay how great does she look. Amanda wore this gorgeous blue gown from Zac Posen (also btw, so stoked he is judging the new PR season). This gown is form fitting and flattering but gives an extra bit of flare at the bottom. Her simplistic accessory choice gave more to the dress than it took and her smokey eye brought out the drama. I mean, she always looks fab but seriously, does anyone still picture her as Karen?

Jessica Chastain

How gorgeous is this red gown from Alexander McQueen. Jessica Chastain's career is booming right now, so its no surprise she stood out at last nights award. Like many of the other stars on the carpet last night, she kept it simple with a gorgeous necklace and soft waves. P.S pictures flying everywhere comparing her to Jessica Rabbit?! What do you think?

January Jones

The "Mad Men" star stirred up loves and hates with this outfit. She wore a Prabal Gurung tuxedo inspired gown. She sported a pompadour hairstyle and very edgy make-up look. There were a lot of people who didn't like this outfit because of the white bib top (I would've liked it better without the halter strap) I personally think it was a unique outfit and I applaud her for taking the chance.

Naomi Watts

Photo: Huffington Post
This was my second favourite look next to Amanda Seyfried. Naomi Watts looks stunning in this Marchesa dress. The beaded gown made her look so fresh and luxurious on the red carpet. No doubt the red lip accented her extremely clean look. She took it one step further with the vintage inspired box clutch. Lovelovelove.

Kiernan Shipka and Aubrey Anderson-Emmons

Photo: Huffington Post
We can't forget the younger superstars who have no shame in showing off their style at last nights award. "Mad Men" actress Kiernan Shipka wore the cutest Oscar de la Renta dress with subtle diamond accessories. This 13-year-old has a cute style but isn't afraid to strut in heels.

Photo: Huffington Post
And who could forget young Aubrey Anderson-Emmson. The young "Modern Family" start walked with an adorable purple frilly dress. So much style for a  5-year-old.

And that's that! My favourite looks from the red carpet last night! What do you think? Were there any celeb look you liked best or maybe didn't like at all? Let me know!

Superhero Sublime

I can finally do my superhero post! I've wanted to talk about this for a while but I hadn't got around to seeing 'The Amazing Spiderman'. I was finally able to see it so I now want to do a sort of superhero review post. The three superhero movies that came out this summer; The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Amazing Spiderman, definitely made the summer worth waiting for if you are a bit of a geek like me.

Okay first, Marvel's 'The Avengers." I was counting down the days for this film to come out, it was my most anticipated film of the summer. On IMDB, the summary is as followed:

"Nick Fury is director of S.H.I.E.L.D, an international peace keeping agency. The agency is a who's who of Marvel Super Heroes, with Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When global security is threatened by Loki and his cohorts, Nick Fury and his team will need all their powers to save the world from disaster"
The first time I saw this it was amazing. The second, was even more amazing. In preparation for this I watched all the prequel movies: Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Captain America, and Thor, the only one I missed was The Hulk because Mark Ruffalo didn't play the Hulk and I knew the story line pretty well. Anyways, re-watching the movies before I saw The Avengers was a wonderful idea because I really got into the story lines and was able to see how they were all brought together. So, when the time for The Avengers came, it was a-a-amazing. They combined the story lines so well to make an incredibly impressive movie. It ran for 2 hours and 23 minutes, and it felt so short! It had a perfect combination of story lines, action, and comedy. If you haven't seen it yet GO. I saw it twice and I would watch it again in a heartbeat. Wait after the credits for this one!
PS: They have announced The Avengers 2! All actors have signed on for 6 movies which will be split between their own and The Avengers.
The second is the third in the trilogy, "The Dark Knight Rises." In my opinion, best one of the trilogy! The IMDB summary is as followed:
"In the final part of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, Batman must face a foe unlike any he has ever faced. In The Dark Knight, Batman saved Gotham, but could not save himself. Taking the blame for Harvey Dent's crimes, he was hunted by the Police, and thus had to leave the task of protecting Gotham in Gordon's hands. After what seemed like ages, Gordon finally brought peace to Gotham, and it was enough to convince the Dark Knight that Gotham was safe and that Bruce Wayne need never put on the Batsuit again. However, eight years after the events of The Dark Knight, a new foe emerges, and threatens to destroy Gotham. When this masked foe Bane proves too much for Gordon to handle, Batman must break his 8-year exile and return to defeat Bane from fulfilling his devious plan and claim his rightful place as the true Savior of Gotham."
8 years later in the series Batman remains awesome. Beyond awesome. The movie ran for 2 hours and 45 minutes but it flew by! I definitely didn't feel impatient or uneasy to the end. I loved every minute of it. They tied in loose ends so well and, in my opinion, made a perfect ending to the trilogy. This time, they added another superhero figure to compliment Batman, Cat Woman. I was unsure how I felt about Ann Hathaway playing Cat Woman at the beginning. In all her other work I've seen she isn't this aggressive. However, she did a great job in terms of the character she was given to play. I was impressed. The movie as a whole was packed with action never leaving you in a state of boredom. Go see this NOW.
Finally, "The Amazing Spiderman" which was the last of these I saw just at the beginning of this week. Here's the summary:
"Peter Parker (Garfield) is an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero"
I had heard mixed opinions about this remake. Some were saying it was really well done and others were saying it was awful. Personally, I didn't like the first Spiderman tirlogy mostly because Toby McGuire and Kristen Dunst really bothered me, I couldn't stand their characters nor their acting. But, I also wasn't sure if I wanted to see this remake because the trilogy was still done in recent years and the story line for that one was well done. So, when I finally saw this on Monday I found my self more impressed than I thought I would be. It was a pretty decent movie - for someone who doesn't follow the Spiderman story. I thought their take on things was good. My brother on the other hand hated it. He has read the comics and said everything about the movie was wrong. So if you do read the comics, you may not enjoy this but if you don't I think it is a decent pass time movie. Stay after the credits for this one too!

Project Runway Season 10: Who I'm Loving and What I predict

It's Project Runway time! Season 9 was amazing and I am so happy Season 10 is now rolling. I remember the first time my roomate found out that I watch this show she said "I don't know anyone who watches that". If you fall into the category she was talking about, but you love fashion, watch this show. No regrets, I promise. Two episodes in and I already have my favourites. Here we go!

I'm so happy they have not switched up the judges. The panel (below) just make the show what it is. Though, I think they started off with a weak guest star for the first episode. Lauren Graham (praise to the way of the Gilmore Girl) guest judged but every time she spoke I got the feeling she has no idea what she was talking about! I was so surprised, definitely thought she would have done better.

Tim Gunn (<3), Heidi Klum (<3), Michael Kors (<3), Nina Garcia (<3)
LOVE.

Here are the two designers I am loving. Since I saw Melissa's audition tape I have adored her. I think she is edgy chique and brings a new twist to the table which is so unpredictable when you see her. I am not surprised she made the top 3 right off the bat, her dresses in the first episode were extremely well tailored and the shape of the mini cocktail dress was beautiful. I would have tried it on in a heartbeat if I saw it on a rack. This week's episode she made the most hard hitting top in black licorice. It was so FIERCE (work it girl). I couldn't find a good picture of it, but check out the link at the bottom of the post to see it!

The dress on my right is my favourite!

Another one on my love list: Sonjia - her personal style is great. I want every single one of her outfits. Her designs are just as fabulous. In the first episode she created a leather jacket which was beautiful. This week however, her unconventional design was gorgeous even though it was made out of candy. She has such a great attitude and she is beautiful, I think she will go far in this competition.

Not everyone is catching my attention; I am not a fan of Ven who is a great designer but I think he has some arrogance to him. His designs were also similar the last two episodes even though they were two different challenges. They both featured a rose design and had similar tailoring. Maybe he will grow on me, who knows. Another that is really racking my nerves is Gunner. I think he has a lot of potential but he is also going to be the one to start the drama with his diva personality. I really just want to give him a mad reality check.

As for my predictions, I think Melissa, Sonjia, Ven, and Christopher will be some of the lasts to be around. I am so excited for this season to unfold!
